NetExtender Multi-factor Authentication Setup

NetExtender Multi-factor Authentication Setup

To login to NetExtender you will need to supply two authentication factors, your computer password and a one-time password (6 digit code) from the Microsoft Authenticator app. This means even if your computer password is compromised, an attacker still can't login without a matching one-time password.
Never share your one-time password with anyone

Set up

If you have not yet setup the authenticator app with NetExtender, when you sign in to NetExtender you will see this message prompting you to set up a one time password app.

First, on your phone, download Microsoft Authenticator (if you don't already have it). Follow this link
https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/security/mobile-authenticator-app
or search for "Microsoft Authenticator" in the App Store or Play Store.

If this is the first time you have used the app, agree to the terms, and skip sign in.

Once you have the app on your phone, in your laptop's web browser go to the portal
https://vpn.chester-races.com:1539

Sign in with your username and computer password. Your username is your initial and surname (not your full email address) e.g. Bob Ross's username would be bross.

You will then be presented with a QR code.

On your phone, in the Microsoft Authenticator app, press the three dot/plus icon in the top right hand corner.

Pick "add account", "other account",

then allow the app to use the phone's camera.

Scan the QR code in your laptop's web browser with your phone.

Once successfully added, make a note of your emergency scratch code. You will need this in case you lose your mobile phone. Then click "click here to continue". Don't click Unbind TOTP key

You will be redirected to the virtual office page. This means you have successfully setup multi-factor authentication. You can now close this browser window and go back to the NetExtender application

Testing

Sign in to NetExtender - this time you will be prompted to enter the code from the app. Enter the code and click "ok" and NetExtender will connect.

Congratulations you have now setup multi-factor authentication for NetExtender! If you have problems please submit a ticket by clicking the button at the bottom of the page, or via email in the usual way.
